Guthrie Radiothon

*Update* – Thank you all so much for making our Guthrie Troy Community Hospital Radiothon such a success! With your help, we were able to raise $31, 065! Thank you to everyone who donated and a huge thank you to our community members that shared their stories about their battles with breast cancer. We cannot thank you all enough.

Wiggle 100 will be hosting a 2 day radiothon for Guthrie Troy Community Hospital on Thursday, October 2nd and Friday, October 3rd leading up to the Breast Cancer walk at Alparon Park on Saturday, October 4th! We will be helping the Guthrie Troy Community Hospital raise money for their Contrast-Enhanced Mammography (CEM) system and we need your help! During this radiothon, you will hear stories from people who have survived breast cancer, people still fighting, and from those that have supported a love one through this awful disease. You are encouraged to call in and donate to help us reach our goal!

What is the goal?

Our goal is to raise $100,000 in order to get the CEM system up and running. Once this system is working, the Guthrie Troy Community Hospital will be the only hospital in the area with this technology. The closest hospital that has this technology is in Rochester, NY.

With your help, we were able to reach our goal of $100,000!!! Any money that is donated over the $100,000 will stay at the Guthrie Troy Community Hospital for their Breast Fund. Thank you all so much for helping us reach this goal. Contrast-Enhanced Mammography will be at the Guthrie Troy Community Hospital in the near future!

What is Contrast-Enhanced Mammography and why is it important?

Contrast-Enhanced Mammography (CEM) helps detect breast cancer in patients by adding contrast to determine what is dense breast tissue and what is cancer. Both dense breast tissue and cancer show up as the color white in scans. With the contrast, it will be able to determine the difference between the two.

It is faster and more comfortable than an MRI and more accessible and affordable. CEM also reduces wait times and anxiety for patients. Instead of seeing white on the scans and asking patients to come back in for more scans and testing, this has the ability to show hospital professionals the difference between dense breast tissue and cancer.

Guthrie Interview

Listen as Dr. Ballard and Heather Mattison explain the importance of Contrast-Enhanced Mammography and how it will help detect breast cancer early.

It’s also about coming together as a community, joined by similar stories—uniting to celebrate breast cancer survivors, remember those we’ve lost and recognize and encourage those who are bravely fighting their way through the disease.
