PA State Police Release New Year’s Reports
Pennsylvania State Police has released its data for the New Year’s enforcement period. From Dec. 31 to Jan. 4, PSP investigated 1,098 vehicle crashes, three of which resulted in fatalities. Impaired driving was identified as a factor in 69 crashes. During the five-day holiday period, troopers arrested 378 people for driving under the influence.
They also issued the following citations:
- 4,377 for speeding
- 508 for failing to wear a seat belt
- 60 for not securing children in safety seats

Towanda Man Sentenced to Probation
RANDY E. VANDERPOOL, 62, Towanda, PA, was sentenced to 24 months of Probation with Restrictive Conditions including electronic monitoring for a portion of that sentence for the offense of Simple Assault, a Misdemeanor. Vanderpool is charged with the offense by Trooper Mitchell Kerrick of the Pennsylvania State Police back in May of 2025 following the Trooper’s investigation into an incident on Liberty Corners Road in Towanda Township.

Gov Josh Shapiro to Run for Second Term
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro will run for a second term in the pivotal battleground state after a first term that put him on the Democratic Party’s radar as a potential presidential contender in 2028. He plans to make the formal announcement Thursday at events in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Although Shapiro hasn’t disclosed any ambitions for higher office, his reelection effort will be closely watched as another test of whether he’s White House material.
